Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Khazanah Journal of Economics (KJE)

Khazanah Journal of Economics (KJE) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Asosiasi Khazanah Cendekia. This statement outlines the ethical standards expected from all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board members, peer reviewers, and the publisher.

This statement is developed in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.


Duties and Ethical Guidelines of the Publisher

Asosiasi Khazanah Cendekia

As the publisher of Khazanah Journal of Economics, Asosiasi Khazanah Cendekia assumes full responsibility for overseeing all stages of the publishing process and recognizes its ethical and professional obligations.

The publisher commits to:

  • Safeguarding editorial independence.

  • Ensuring that commercial considerations (including advertising, sponsorship, or other financial interests) do not influence editorial decisions.

  • Supporting communication between journal management and relevant institutions when necessary.

  • Upholding academic integrity and preventing publication malpractice.

  • Maintaining transparency in journal governance and publication practices.


Duties of the Editor-in-Chief

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for maintaining the academic quality, integrity, and reputation of the journal.

The Editor-in-Chief shall:

  • Evaluate manuscripts fairly, objectively, and solely on intellectual merit without discrimination.

  • Ensure confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.

  • Make final decisions regarding acceptance or rejection of manuscripts.

  • Provide clear, constructive, and timely editorial decisions.

  • Select qualified and appropriate reviewers in relevant fields such as economics, accounting, development economics, and entrepreneurship.

  • Prevent conflicts of interest in the editorial process.

  • Promote continuous improvement of journal quality, impact, and visibility.


Duties of the Editors

Publication Decisions

Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published based on:

  • Academic merit

  • Originality

  • Methodological rigor

  • Clarity and relevance

  • Contribution to the fields of economics, accounting, development economics, and entrepreneurship

Editors may consult reviewers and Editorial Board members and must comply with applicable legal requirements concerning defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.

Handling of Manuscripts

  • Manuscripts must be evaluated promptly and professionally.

  • Authors must receive acknowledgment upon submission.

  • Eligible manuscripts should be sent for peer review without unnecessary delay.

  • Editorial decisions must be clearly communicated with appropriate justification.

Conflict of Interest

Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist. In such cases, another qualified editor will manage the review process independently.

Submission by Editorial Board Members

Manuscripts submitted by Editorial Board members undergo the same rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Editors who are authors must not participate in decisions regarding their own submissions.


Duties of Reviewers

Peer Review Process

Khazanah Journal of Economics applies a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations.

  • Maintain confidentiality of the manuscripts.

  • Assess manuscripts based on academic quality and contribution.

  • Identify relevant published work not cited by the authors.

  • Report suspected plagiarism, duplication, or unethical practices.

  • Avoid reviewing manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.

Reviews must remain professional and focus on the scholarly content of the manuscript.


Duties of Authors

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must submit original work. Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism, data duplication, and improper citation, is strictly prohibited.

Reporting Standards

Authors must present accurate and honest research findings. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data constitutes serious ethical misconduct.

Data Access and Retention

Authors should retain raw data for a reasonable period after publication and provide access to such data if requested for verification.

Multiple or Concurrent Submission

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal.

Authorship

Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could influence the research outcomes or interpretation.

Ethical Compliance

Research involving human participants, surveys, or interviews must comply with ethical research standards and obtain necessary approvals where required.


Ethical Oversight

The journal reserves the right to:

  • Retract or correct published articles in cases of confirmed misconduct.

  • Publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when necessary.

  • Investigate suspected ethical violations in accordance with COPE guidelines.
